The 'Walkshire' Campaign
Explore all the Dales have to offer with the help of Welcome to Yorkshire
Throughout 2021 they are running their 'Walkshire' campaign, covering walks for all ages and abilities, with articles by guest bloggers sharing their favourite routes and favourite days out. This year long campaign aims to put the county of Yorkshire on the map (pardon the pun!) as the best place to go walking in the UK.
As we know, we’re blessed with some of the most iconic locations in the country for getting outdoors, however Walkshire isn’t just a celebration of rural areas but those in urban areas too, from short loops you can do right from your doorstep to wanders with friends with a (Yorkshire) brew in hand. This campaign also aims to discover the wonderful history and heritage of our county too, such as the ‘Walk in the Brontë’s Footsteps’. The acclaimed sisters wrote their literature in the village of Haworth, just a 40 minute drive from us here at The Gamekeeper’s Inn and the walk takes you via paths that they were sure to have trod, in scenery that probably hasn’t changed much since.
Of course at the moment restrictions are curtailing our adventuring somewhat and while the walks featured stretch the length and breadth of Yorkshire it’s still so important to follow current Covid restrictions for exercise – as well as being aware of what is going on in the countryside too! As we come into lambing season it’s never more important to treat this special part of the world and its animals with the respect that they’re due.
To follow along, there will be walk a day published across the Welcome to Yorkshire website and social media channels, and whether you prefer to screenshot or bookmark you’ll be able to build up a library of hikes and wanders to inspire you for your next visit - or if you’re lucky enough to be a local – on your daily exercise. Just make sure you use the hashtag #Walkshire when you do to share with the community and to see what everyone is up to.
