It's been a challenging year to say the least for our couples - from rescheduling for the second and even third time to the heart wrenching decision to reduce guest lists. It hasn't been the wedding that many planned, but that seems to have made the ones that did get to go ahead even more special!
So we've asked some of our 2022 brides to relive their not-so-big day with us by filling out a little questionnaire so we could share a little bit of the magic with you too!
Please tell us yours and your husbands names Emma and Adam Wilkins
The date of your wedding with us? 3rd October 2022
Tell us how you met? We met at sixth form, we were in the same form together and got talking.
How did he or she propose? He proposed the day before our 8 year anniversary in our living room. He had decorated the room with rose petals and candles and got down on one knee.
What was the theme for your day, and did you have a colour scheme? It was a rustic country theme. The colour was a dusty blue scheme.
Where did you hold your ceremony? In the Netherside Suite at The Gamekeeper's Inn
Why did you choose The Gamekeeper’s Inn as your reception venue? It was everything that we were looking for. We wanted a barn style wedding but not for the barn price!
When did you know you had found THE dress? November 2019. I had tried on a few and saw this one, I spoke with my dress consultant/tailor about some additions I wanted in order to make it perfect and she did! I knew the dress was the one as I could imagine walking down the aisle in it to Adam.
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear? Kate Harrison (sister) and Melissa Best (best friend)
They wore a floor length dusty blue dress in the style of their choosing.
Tell us about your floral arrangements Our flowers were Delphinium, Astilbe, seasonal flowers, Gypsophilia and eucalyptus which gave is a lovely country feel and the colours matched perfectly.
Tell us about the personal touches you added to the day I was able to decorate the room and tables how I wished. I added drapes and fairy light to the beams, I bought a flower arch for the end of the aisle. On the tables I had log slices with jars/milk bottles of flowers and candles. I was also able to have a frame up showing a timeline of our relationship. We had a polaroid camera for guests to take a photo of themselves for the guest book.
How did you feel as you walked down the aisle? I was actually really nervous which surprised me. I just wanted Adam to like my dress and for everything to go well. I'm not used to attention being on me! But as soon as I saw Adam I felt relaxed again and really happy as it had been a hard year getting to this point!
What was the most memorable moment of your day? All of it! We spent the whole day laughing. Adam's face as he saw me the first time walking down the aisle, being pronounced Mr and Mrs, the food, the speeches. Just being together with close family and friends having a great time.
Which song did you choose for your first dance and why? I left this job to Adam to surprise me on the day. He chose 'A little respect' by Erasure. I think he chose this song as we always enjoy dancing to it when we hear it and knew it was a good song to start with.
Which food and drinks did you choose to provide for your guests on the day? The food was amazing!
Starter was pate or prawn cocktail, main; beef or pork and pudding was sticky toffee pudding or Eton mess
Tell us about your wedding cake It was a 2 tier semi naked cake. The bottom tier was chocolate and the top tier was lemon drizzle. It was decorated with icing flowers that matched our flower scheme and it was delicious!
Where did you go on your honeymoon? We had originally planned to go to Mexico but with everything going on it was cancelled. So we are holding off until things have settled down. Not sure where we will decide to go. We went on a minimoon to York for a night to celebrate.
What was the most challenging aspect of planning your wedding? Planning it in the middle of a pandemic and having to postpone it, then reduce guests from 65 to 30 and then reduce them to 15 the week before!
Was there anything you wish you had known before? Not really, everything was going great before March!
Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding? Just relax, what will be will be. We had the most amazing day that we will remember forever with only 15 people!
A short review... "The Gamekeeper's Inn were amazing from start to finish. We had regular meetings with Angela to discuss what we wanted and not once did she say no. They were so flexible with us (especially when we had to postpone and change numbers, twice!) On the day everything ran perfectly, the staff and food were amazing and have helped to make our day so special! So thank you!"
