We absolutely LOVE hosting your weddings here at The Gamekeeper's Inn and creating a day that's perfect for you is a wonderful feeling. So we've asked some of our brides to relive their special day with us by filling out a little questionnaire so we could share a little bit of the magic with you too!
Please tell us yours and your husbands names Amy and Joshua Catherall
The date of your wedding with us? 26 January 2019
Tell us how you met? We met whilst we were both on Initial Officer Training for the Royal Air Force
How did he or she propose? At midnight during our graduation ball we received our commissions into the RAF. Josh took me outside onto the steps of the College Hall and got down on one knee
What was the theme for your day, and did you have a colour scheme? We did not have a theme, but blue was our colour scheme to tie in with Josh's uniform
Where did you hold your ceremony? We had our ceremony at St Michael's All Angels in Linton. It was a gorgeous service and we absolutely love David the Reverend.
Why did you choose The Gamekeeper’s Inn as your reception venue? We wanted to get married in North Yorkshire so had a look at few venues locally. We came for some lunch and were blown away by the food and the surrounding area was lovely. We didn't want anything fussy or fancy and felt that the Gamekeeper's Inn was the perfect size and would allow for an intimate reception. The wedding coordinator Angela was really accommodating and went out of her way to help us.
When did you know you had found THE dress? A family friend who also serves in the RAF offered me the dress she wore a few years ago when she tied the knot. We are similar height and build and it seemed perfect when I tried it on. I went to try on a few more just to be certain but this one was perfect. And meant we could spend some money elsewhere!
We decided to use this saving to dress the venue instead of me and it was worth every penny. Creative Cover Hire took all the stress and work away and transformed the space.
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear? I wanted to have three bridesmaids and chose each one from a different chapter of my life so far. I lived with Hannah whilst at university in Edinburgh and we've stayed in touch ever since. Louise was one of my best friends made at RAF College. And Sarah was soon to be my little sister-in-law.
We got them in gorgeous navy dresses with a faux fur wrap because it was cold! And I had decided to wear Toms to be comfortable on my wedding day so the bridesmaids coordinated with me.
Tell us about your floral arrangements We used The Hedgerow in Threshfield for our flowers who were brilliant as well as reasonable! We had bouquets for the girls and button holes for the guys. We pressed some of our flowers afterwards and have arranged them into a frame as a memento.
Tell us about the personal touches you added to the day There was a lot of military touches running through our day. A guard of honour at the church, my Step-Dad drove us there and donned his old hat from his serving days. Our tables were named after different RAF aircraft and we had ammunition themed tins full of sweets for our guests.
How did you feel as you walked down the aisle? Incredibly nervous as I hate being the centre of attention. I relaxed as soon as I was at the front with Josh.
What was the most memorable moment of your day? The whole thing was so perfect but it had to be the look on Josh's face when he saw me in the church
Which song did you choose for your first dance and why? We chose Ed Sheeran's ‘Hearts Don't Break Around Here’. A lesser well-known track from his album Divide. It talks about being strong and supporting one another, and guiding you home. Fitting when we know will spend a lot of time apart.
Which food and drinks did you choose to provide for your guests on the day? We provided a welcome drink for everyone and copious amounts of wine. Because we had to pull our wedding forwards unexpectedly, we opted for a hot buffet with party food rather than three course sit down meal to save some money. It actually went down so well and kept the whole day really relaxed.
Tell us about your wedding cake My lovely Step-Sister made our cake, it was gorgeous and a lovely gift to us. It was a semi-naked Victoria Sponge and there wasn't any left!
What music and entertainment did you have on the day? We hired Audio Test Pilots to play an acoustic reception as people arrived and a live set for the evening. They also provided us with a disco until late. They were absolutely brilliant and everyone up and dancing. We also had a photo booth provided by our photographer which went down really well and left us with a little scrap book of pictures and comments from the day.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? We were planning to go for a road trip across Western Canada. Our plans changed and we now have a gorgeous 6 month old girl who takes up a lot of our time. We are going to save up and make sure we still get to do our road trip!
What was the most challenging aspect of planning your wedding? Definitely pulling it forwards by 10 months. We had about 6 weeks to do everything but thankfully all of the vendors we had hired for our initial date were flexible and completely accommodating!
Was there anything you wish you had known before? Not really. The way everything came together was perfect and I wouldn't have changed any of it for the world.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding? Relax! Try not to micro-manage all the small details otherwise you will stress. These will fall into place and everyone will come together to sort out what they need.
A short review... "A wonderful, accommodating venue which has brilliant food and stunning surroundings. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect and we can't recommend the staff or the food highly enough. Thank you so much."
