We absolutely LOVE hosting your weddings here at The Gamekeeper's Inn and creating a day that's perfect for you is a wonderful feeling. So we've asked some of our brides to relive their special day with us by filling out a little questionnaire so we could share a little bit of the magic with you too!
Please tell us yours and your husbands names Naomi & Peter
The date of your wedding with us? 14th June 2019
Tell us how you met? Bible College in Bradford
How did he or she propose? We went for a mini break to my hometown of Torquay and he took me to one of my favourite views - a bench on top of a clifftop overlooking the ocean - he then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. After that he had organised dinner at my favourite French restaurant on the harbour side with champagne and flowers awaiting our arrival!
What was the theme for your day, and did you have a colour scheme? No theme as such - we just did rustic, barn vibes. Blush pink, navy and pops of greenery was the colour
Where did you hold your ceremony? The Netherside Suite
Why did you choose The Gamekeeper’s Inn as your reception venue? We wanted a barn to get married in and most we went to look at had nothing included in their huge prices except the hire of the room!
We came to Gamekeepers and fell in love with the landscape and the room and the package deal you could offer. We loved that the hire came with onsite accommodation and breakfast the next day. The venue perfectly fitted our budget and dream. Your staff were so friendly and made us feel super relaxed. Angela - we would recommend her to everyone! Nothing was too complex for her to work out, she worked with us to create a bespoke package as some of requirements were extremely different to the package you offered but she just took it on board and made it happen.
On the day the staff just mucked in and made our wedding amazing - nothing went wrong and things that were missed by us they just worked out a plan!
When did you know you had found THE dress? I went to one shop and tried on designs I had on my Pinterest board and none of them felt right or suited me. I went to a bridal shop in Baildon and let her know what I was after and she suggested some other designs. I ended up liking 2 dresses but wanted to feel comfortable and able to move on the wedding day - I didn't want anything scratching me and I wanted to be able to dance and move around freely. I fell in love with a simple lace design with a sweetheart neckline and a long veil. I loved it!
Who were your bridesmaids and what did they wear? My bridesmaids were 2 of my childhood friends and two I met at Bible college and then I had a flower girl (my little cousin) and a page boy.
The girls wore blush pink multiway dresses - it suited them all as they were all different body shapes and sizes. My flower girl wore a blush pink dress from Roco and the pageboy a navy suit from Roco.
Tell us about your floral arrangements One of my bridesmaids is a florist so the perks of that is she knew exactly what I wanted! I went for blush pinks and greenery. Gypsophila and pink roses were big assets to my bouquets.
Tell us about the personal touches you added to the day We wanted to do things a little different to what the package the Gamekeepers could offer so we tweaked a few things and they were so accommodating! We had a friend who made cakes and wanted to be a part of our day so instead of having the desserts the venue offered we had a table outside with drinks and all these different ranges of cakes from our friend available for puddings! We also had a huge doughnut wall which we donated to the venue afterwards!
How did you feel as you walked down the aisle? Amazing and so blessed to be celebrating this day with our special friends and family.
What was the most memorable moment of your day? The dance floor - we had friends and family come from all over the world and in that moment it was like one big reunion as we sang, danced and celebrated together.
Which song did you choose for your first dance and why? Nathan Sykes – ‘Over and Over Again’. The lyrics are so beautiful.
Which food and drinks did you choose to provide for your guests on the day? We went for the buffet style and did curry, lamb hot pot and steak and ale pies (my husbands fave!) and in the evening we did hog roast.
Tell us about your wedding cake A special friend of ours made our cake. I wanted something simple so went for a 3 tiered naked cake with some flowers on. We bought some cake toppers off Etsy and they were 2 corks made into a bride and groom - they were so sweet and we have kept them!
What music and entertainment did you have on the day? Music for the ceremony we had a friend on guitar do song with us - because we did a church service, we wanted a live band for the hymns.
In the evening we had our wonderful musical friends come together and play all the biggest wedding hits. We are both in bands so know lots of musicians and singers and they all rehearsed for months up to the wedding and made it really special!
Where did you go on your honeymoon? Jandia - to a beautiful, peaceful adults only spa hotel.
What was the most challenging aspect of planning your wedding? Organising and trying to keep both sides of the families happy!
Was there anything you wish you had known before? Nope
Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding? Have fun - don't go all "bridezilla" ladies. Enjoy the process. Have clear set instructions for everyone and assign roles on the day and leading up to it to your groomsmen and bridesmaids. Don't let family sway your ideas – it’s YOUR day so do what you like and have fun!
A short review... "We couldn't recommend this venue enough. The staff go ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure everything is met to an excellent standard. Angela was so helpful to us leading up to the day - no ask was too big and no request was too hard, she just made it happen. The food and venue were exquisite and we had the most amazing day!"
